According to the report, domestic production of mobile phones in the country is increasing rapidly and the need for imports has reduced significantly. Manufacturing of phones of these brands is happening in India

Now not only domestic brands but also international companies are making their products in India.
Apple has recently started manufacturing of its premium models iPhone Pro and Pro Max in India.
Google has also started manufacturing its new Pixel 8 model in India.
Samsung is already manufacturing its flagship models like S24, Flip and Fold devices in India.
Apart from this, Chinese smartphone brands like Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Realme are also manufacturing their phones in India.

99% of phones sold in India are made here

According to reports, almost 99% of mobile phones sold in India are now being manufactured here. The 1% phones that are being imported are also planned to be made in the country soon. This revolution in smartphone manufacturing is not only making India self-reliant, but is also establishing the country as a global manufacturing hub.

Import can be up to 0.25%

It is estimated in the report that by the financial year 2024-25, the demand for smartphone imports will decrease, which may remain only 0.25%. During the current financial year 2023-24, only 3% of the phones imported were sold in India. Most of them were iPhone Pro and Google Pixel models, which are now being manufactured in the country.

How is India becoming a challenge for China?

China has long been the global center of mobile phone manufacturing, but India’s growing manufacturing capacity is directly challenging it. Many companies have closed their manufacturing units in China and started production in India. India’s political stability, cheap labor costs and schemes like Production-Linked Incentives (PLI) have made India an attractive manufacturing hub for global companies.
