Indian RailwaysHigh-Speed Rail in India: Indian Railways will soon begin the production of the country’s first high-speed train. This new train will run on the 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor.
Currently, the work is going in full swing on the country’s first bullet train corridor. Being developed on Japanese Shinkansen technology, the priority corridor of the MAHSR is expected to be operational by 2026.
Production of High-Speed Trains in India
Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has awarded a contract for the design, manufacturing, and commissioning of two high-speed trainsets to BEML Limited. Both these trainsets will be built at BEML’s Bengaluru rail coach complex.
Last month, speaking to ETNOW.in, U Subba Rao, General Manager, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) confirmed that bids have been received from BEML. “We are finalizing the tender. We have received the bids from BEML. We are scrutinizing the bid,” he said exclusively on September 22.
Cost of High-Speed Trains in India
The price of each high-speed car is Rs 27.86 cr and the total contract value is Rs 866.87 crore which includes design cost, one-time development cost, non-recurring charges, the one-time cost towards Jigs, fixtures, tooling, and testing facilities, which will be utilized for all future High-Speed projects in India.

The first indigenously designed and manufactured high-speed trainsets will run at a test speed of 280 kmph.

India’s First High-Speed Trainsets will feature a fully air-conditioned, Chair Car configuration, the trains will offer modern passenger amenities such as reclining and rotatable seats, special provisions for passengers with restricted mobility, and onboard infotainment systems.
“This contract further strengthens BEML’s position as a leader in rolling stock manufacturing and reaffirms its commitment to India’s vision of a faster, more efficient rail network,” the state-owned company said in a statement.
