Manufacturing in India: The IT hardware market in the country is filled with laptops, tablets and personal computers mostly coming from abroad. The central government is preparing to make big changes in this situation soon. If the government’s plan is successful, then many changes will be seen in this market of about 10 billion dollars. The government is trying to reduce the import of IT hardware and increase its domestic manufacturing. This drastic step can be taken in January 2025.
Serious consideration is going on to set import limit
Quoting sources, Business Standard has claimed in its report that the government wants that things like laptops, tablets and personal computers should be manufactured in the country itself. For this, pressure will be put on companies like Apple. Besides, the import limit will also be fixed. A similar plan was to be implemented last year. But, due to strong opposition from companies and pressure from America, it was postponed. Since then, the Government of India is keeping a close watch on the IT hardware imports taking place in the country under a system. This system is ending at the end of this year. In such a situation, the government has asked the companies to seek fresh approval.
Work started on new import authorization system
Sources claimed that the government now feels that enough time has been given to IT hardware companies. Talks can also be started with all parties in this regard from next week. In such a situation, companies will get some more time. The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has started working on the new import authorization system. Only under this, companies will be given import approval. Currently, any number of laptops can be brought into the country.
The glory of foreign companies like HP, Dell, Lenovo and Samsung
Apart from Apple, this industry is currently dominated by HP, Dell, Lenovo and Samsung. At present two-thirds of India’s demand is met through imports. A large number of these devices come from China. The government wants to get their production done in the country itself. Besides, there are preparations to set minimum quality standards also. Under this, low quality devices will not be able to enter the country. If such a decision is taken then companies like Dixon Technologies will benefit a lot.
