Britain Latest News: A mistake by Specsverse Optical Group Limited, a spectacles manufacturing company in Birmingham, England, cost a person dearly. The man lost the vision in one eye because Specsavers did not refer him to the hospital for emergency surgery. If he had got his eye surgery done on time, perhaps he would not have lost his vision.
50-year-old David previously needed to wear glasses only for reading and watching TV. In March 2019, David noticed dots and flashes of light across his eye. After this he went to Specsavers store for his eye checkup. An eye specialist examined him and treated him for retinal detachment, in which the layer of light-sensitive cells inside the eye becomes loose.

Eye sight lost due to lack of emergency surgery
The victim, David, alleged that he was scheduled to undergo emergency eye surgery, but had to wait for a week, after which he lost vision in one eye. The eye specialist tried to contact the ophthalmology department of Kidderminster Hospital by phone to schedule the surgery on the same day, but could not get through. They then informed him via fax, but David was asked to wait at home until he received a call from the hospital.

Even after surgery eyesight did not return
It is alleged that the ophthalmology department of Kidderminster Hospital did not give time for eye surgery for a week. David waited at his home as he was told, but no call came. Eventually David lost the vision in his right eye. After calling NHS 111, England’s free emergency medical helpline, a surgeon at Kidderminster Hospital checked his eyes the same day, but by then he had lost his vision. After this the surgeon performed surgery on his eye, but the vision never came back. Specsavers admitted that if the eye operation had been done on the same day, perhaps his eye would not have been damaged.
