40 C-295 aircraft will be manufactured in Vadodara final assembly line. The first aircraft from this factory will be ready in the year 2026. This facility of Tata will prove to be a milestone in defense manufacturing.
New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the Government of Spain Pedro Sanchez today inaugurated the Tata Aircraft Complex for the manufacturing of C-295 aircraft at the premises of Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in Vadodara. 40 Airbus C-295 aircraft will be manufactured in this final assembly line of Tata Advanced Systems Limited, established in collaboration with Airbus. The first C-295 aircraft will come out of this ‘ship factory’ of Tata after two years i.e. in the year 2026. The inauguration of Tata-Airbus’ C295 project in Vadodara is a historic achievement in India’s aerospace sector. This step not only strengthens India’s self-reliance but also shows the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The project is the first private aerospace assembly line in India, which will operate the entire cycle of not only manufacturing but also assembly, testing and delivery in India. More than 18,000 parts used in aircraft manufacturing will be produced in India only. It demonstrates the power of India’s engineering capability and resources. This assembly line of Vadodara is not just a manufacturing unit, but it will act as a catalyst for local industries. The establishment of a stick holding depot at Prayagraj and a training center at Agra is an important step towards the overall development of India’s aviation ecosystem.

Airbus-Tata’s Jugalbandhi will give India a new identity
This combination of Airbus-Tata will give India a new identity in the world in defense manufacturing. 40 Airber C-295 aircraft will be manufactured in the final assembly line of Vadodara. In the year 2021, India had signed a deal to buy 56 C-295 aircraft from Airbus for $2.5 billion. Airbus and Tata will manufacture 40 aircraft at the Vadodara plant, while Airbus will provide 16 aircraft directly from Spain.
Vadodara FAL will involve the complete development of the entire ecosystem from manufacturing to assembly, testing and qualification, and delivery and maintenance throughout the life cycle of the aircraft. That means, in the true sense, planes will be made here, not assembled.
Airbus and Tata will also make helicopters
Apart from manufacturing C-295 aircraft, Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems will also manufacture civil helicopters in India. This agreement was announced during the last visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to India. Airbus Helicopters will partner with Tata Group to set up a Final Assembly Line (FAL) for H125 helicopters in India. These helicopters made in India will not only be used by India but will also be exported to neighboring countries.
Apart from Tata and Airbus, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and French company Safran are going to form a joint venture to make MRO for Rafale engine. This joint venture will also make engines for the Indian Multi Role Helicopter and will also build the Scorpion submarine in India.
Target to take aerospace market to $63 billion by 2026
The Center has set a target of turning the aerospace sector into a $63 billion market by 2026. Vadodara’s Airbus-Tata facility will be very useful in achieving this goal. This will be a living example of India’s defense manufacturing capability, which will encourage other big companies to come to India. The government is trying to bring renowned companies in the aerospace sector to India. He has also got success in this.
Along with Airbus, Boeing has also announced to invest 100 million dollars in India. The company will invest Rs 3000 crore to set up engineering services and support center in Chennai. Apart from this, Boeing, in collaboration with Tata, will make fuselages and other parts for AH-16 Apache helicopters at Tata-Boeing Aerospace Limited in Hyderabad.
Swedish company Saab AB will also invest Rs 500 crore for the manufacturing of Carl-Gustaf rocket system in India. Similarly, Tata Advanced Systems, in collaboration with Lockheed Martin of America, will also manufacture parts for C-130J Super Hercules air lifter and S-76 helicopters in Hyderabad. Russian company Rosbornexport and Indian company Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited are manufacturing AK-203 assault rifles in Korwa, UP.
