A separate campaign has been launched by the Central Government regarding road safety. Under this campaign, helmets of people riding two-wheelers have also been included. The special thing is that the government has canceled the licenses of 162 companies which were manufacturing helmets. This campaign is being said to be the biggest action taken by the government. More different plans are being made by the government for the coming days. Let us also tell you what kind of planning is being done by the government.
162 license canceled
Following concerns over road safety and the flood of substandard protective equipment in the market, the Center has ordered district officials to take action against makers and sellers of non-ISI certified helmets. Giving information on Saturday, the Consumer Affairs Ministry said that the government has so far canceled the licenses of 162 helmet manufacturers. Authorities have conducted 27 raids targeting violations of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) rules.
Order about 3 years ago
Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare said helmets save lives, but only when they are of good quality. This initiative is important towards removing unsafe helmets from the market. This action has been taken after the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways promulgated the Quality Control Order in June, 2021, making BIS certification mandatory for all helmets under standard IS 4151:2015.

What is the new planning?
The authorities have specifically targeted roadside vendors selling uncertified helmets. Consumers can verify the credentials of the manufacturer through the BIS Care app or website. District officials have been directed to work closely with police and BIS officials to identify violations. The Consumer Affairs Ministry said the campaign will be integrated with existing road safety initiatives.
