Yesterday (28 October) was a significant moment in India’s defense and aerospace journey. We inaugurated the C-295 aircraft manufacturing complex in Vadodara with Pedro Sanchez, head of the Government of Spain. The factory was ready two years after the foundation stone was laid. This is the new work culture. This shows the capabilities of the people of India.

  • Defense production to increase to Rs 1.27 lakh crore in 2023-24.
  • Export of defense products was Rs 1 thousand crore in 2014. Today it has become Rs 21 thousand crores.
  • More than 12,300 defense products have been indigenized in three years.
  • More than Rs 7,500 crore has been invested by DPSUs in domestic vendors.
  • 25% of the defense research and development budget was allocated for industry-led innovation.

  • MSMEs are becoming an integral part of the defense supply chain.
  • Industry-academia partnerships are promoting research and development.

Because of the strength, skills of our youth and the efforts of the government, we are seeing the following effects:

  • Dependence on imports reduced.
  • There are employment opportunities in the defense manufacturing sector.
  • The skills of our youth have developed.
  • MSMEs are getting a boost in the defense sector.

There was a time when our forces faced shortage of weapons and important equipment. Today is the era of self-reliance. This is a journey every Indian can be proud of.
