New Delhi (HS). Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran on Tuesday said the conglomerate will create 5 lakh jobs in the manufacturing sector involving semiconductor, electric vehicle (EV), battery and related industries in the next five years.
Chandrasekaran said this while addressing the seminar organized here by the Indian Foundation for Quality Management. He said that if India cannot create jobs in the manufacturing sector then it cannot achieve the goal of being a developed nation. Chandrasekaran said that we all know that every month 10 lakh people are joining the workforce.
In his address, the Tata Sons chief highlighted the important role of manufacturing in India’s goal of becoming a developed nation. He said that with our (Tata Group’s) investments in semiconductors, precision manufacturing, assembly, electric vehicles, batteries and related industries, I think we will create 5 lakh manufacturing jobs in the next five years. He said the group is setting up a semiconductor plant in Assam and several other plants for electric vehicles and batteries.
Chandrasekaran said that we all know that every month 10 lakh people are joining the workforce. We need to create 10 crore jobs in the coming times. In his address, the Tata Sons chief stressed the importance of new age manufacturing such as making semiconductors. He said that for every one employment created, it creates eight to ten indirect jobs. He appreciated the government’s support in these initiatives and stressed the need for employment generation in the manufacturing sector.
